London - THE Hot Spot for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) You might not be aware that London is the number one place in the whole of the UK where you need to be extra careful so as not to catch an STI while sexually active. There are a variety of ways to get an STI, it is not only via the pure act of unprotected intercourse. It is important not to be naïve as you still can get an STI whilst giving or receiving oral sex, kissing or cross contamination of bodily fluids. Through oral sex you can get Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Herpes, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), HIV and Trichomoniasis. You might not even know if someone is carrying an STI as some STIs don’t show any symptoms for years. After a long period of being dormant they can manifest as something dire. Through kissing you can pick up Herpes Simplex virus or Cytomegalovirus and through cross contamination of bodily fluids you can pick up, at the very least, HVP or Chlamydia. Unknowingly living with Chlamydia in the long term can besides other conditions, manifest in pelvic inflammatory disease in women or pelvic pain in men.
